I have not heard a lot from these guys lately. I heard about Joey Gibson’s Patriot Prayer group a lot in 2016-2021. I have tried to find out more about them since I agree with the idea that our founding fathers were praying men (at least most of them). Also, I believe we need more prayer! I also support the idea of them (peacefully) counter-protesting ANTIFA and other far-left crazies. However, despite their name of “Patriot Prayer” and the fact that Mr. Gibson claims to have been motivated by his religious beliefs, according to the following video, he does not identify Patriot Prayer as “Christian” or “Judeo-Christian”, religious, or even conservative.

I have not been able to find a website of theirs or any codification of their beliefs anywhere. I was able to find the Patriot Prayer group on Facebook, back in 2015 and 2016. I would post things on their page like, “We need to remember to love our enemies!” and “Hate the sin, love the sinner!” Strangely, none of these values were celebrated and sometimes they were even debated. Maybe that was just a few members, maybe it is not reflective of the overall organization’s (if there is a real “organization”) true values. I am not sure.

However, I do believe that people of faith are called to place their political protests under the Lord, whether Republican or Democrat or WHATEVER. Now I realize that ANTIFA members and other far-left protesters frequently and perhaps reliably attack first. I also believe that there are times for action and even conflict. However, I do believe that even in those times, the Word of God needs to come first. We need to be loving our enemies even as we are telling people that they are wrong. We need to have the Lord at the center of our lives even as we push back those who wish to declare wrong to be right and as we “retake the hill”. We need to be loving our enemies even as we defend ourselves from their fists and kicks.

Is the Patriot Prayer group right or wrong/ good or bad? I am not sure. I think that it revolves around the person who is protesting with them and their motivations and their heart. Some people who have joined them have been arrested for violent acts and yet everything that the American rebels did against the British was also illegal.

Here is a prayer by a true patriot, to whom a relationship with God and His Word were important:

And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.
