Shine on You Crazy Diamond

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.                         Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

This song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, was created in 1975 to honor “Syd” Barrett, the Pink Floyd founder, by his bandmates. He was a very, very disturbed man who struggled with schizophrenia and a drug problem that would make any addict blush. Despite his problems, he lasted until age 60 and died in 2006.

However,  this article is not about that unfortunate man. I was hoping instead to talk about shinning the light of the Lord and not allowing life give you eyes like, “black holes in the sky”. Also, our ultimate goal here on Earth and in the world to come is to shine and reflect the Lord’s glory.

Ever notice how Angels are always wearing white?

That is because the color white reflects all colors. If we were wearing black, it would be absorbing all colors. White gowns were made to reflect!

Likewise, we are to be living lives that reflect the Lord’s glory through our actions, words, and thoughts and goals.

Like the song says, think of your youth and your children. You teach your children how to respond to life through all your actions and words. With children there is no ‘do as I say, NOT as I do!’. They see you when you and learn when you flip-off someone who cuts you off and when you forgive someone who stole a parking space from you. They reflect you and your character and will do the same.

Also, we are not be threatened by the light. The Lord can shine His light into our deepest and darkest places, let Him! Allow Him to all the rooms of your life just like it says in My Heart, Christ’s Home….(my_heart…_christs_home.pdf (loganchristianfellowship.com).

We read God’s Word, we interact with other believers, we hear His Word in our lives. Over a long time, we build it into our lives. We apply it in our lives and synthesize and adapt it for relationships and in situations we never thought we would be in, eventually without even thinking about it.  The opposite is allowing ourselves to be blown by a steel breeze.

That is reflecting the Lord’s glory. When we get to Heaven, the Lord’s glory will shine off of our clothes. Here, He wants us to reflect His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control. That is not being a prisoner to society or the media. Nor is that reaching for the moon, as the Lord is with us. So both now and then, shine on you crazy diamond!

Hebrews 1:3  He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
