Standing on the Edge

Here I am, you sent me

I stepped out of town, I left the comforts of home behind to find a better place because YOU wanted me to

I am standing here, in front of me my feet are in the sand as the water gently laps

Behind me, the chariots and the swords and the spears are coming, I am afraid…

Here I am. YOU sent me

I am not blind, but I cannot see, I am not deaf but I cannot hear

I want to pass the test but it is hard, it truly is….

I am not stupid but I do not know where to go or what to do

Here I am, YOU sent me

Around me, men and women are crying and wailing and singing their death songs

The sky and the earth and the water are oblivious to their tears

I want to lie down and crawl into the fetal position and hold myself

Here I am, YOU sent me

I clutch myself and look within, there you are, the inside rock

You have always been there and have never let me go

You are at the center of my being, inside the Temple of My Heart

Here I am, YOU sent me

I struggle back to my feet and use your staff to comfort me

and I hear you call to me to step forward into the sea

Here I am, you sent me

I don’t understand this, step into the sea? I cannot swim!?

Will the sun cease being hot? Will the coming spears not rend my flesh?

I laugh to myself and remember that I am just a man but you are maker of the sea and the earth and I try

My foot moves forward and the water parts at my step.

Here I am, YOU sent me
