Why Cycling Does Wonders For Your Fitness And Health

by MARKO RAKIC · NOVEMBER 6, 2020

First of all, we’ve all cycled at least once in our life, I mean come on – you do of course remember getting your first bike and falling off it many many times right? Well a few of us uphold this exercise once we get older, and that’s fair enough – we all live busy lives and it’s often hard to find times to do things for ourselves.

But in a world where advertising for bad food is ever-so prominent and many things being done for us with our phones and/or automation services, then we’re left to wonder what’s happened with our physique and health?

Cycling is a great aerobic exercise, which is just as intense as swimming or running (Depending on your exertion levels).

If you’re looking to invigorate your love for cycling once again – or rather your fitness, then check out the below facts about Cycling, and hopefully, it motivates you to spin those wheels once again.

Top Reasons To Start Cycling Again (Passion, or Hobby):

1. Low impact exercise

Cycling is a low impact exercise when compared to running, for instance, it causes less stress on the joints than many other forms of exercise, and you don’t need much other than a bike and a fitness watch to track your time to get started, and stay consistent.

2. Great for your stamina

Have you reached that age where a flight of stairs to work is enough to puff you out? Don’t worry you’re not alone and I was the same until recently. Cycling improves your cardiovascular fitness which in turn leads to more stamina and better heart health, you’re left feeling absolutely amazing.

3. Great for mental health

Exercising releases the feel-good chemical in our brains called endorphins and gives us a “natural high” type of feeling. This in turn helps your overall mood feel better and can help with anxiety and depression.

Some More Tips On Cycling

These are the three most compelling reasons I can think of to start cycling again. Some people do tend to get knee pain after cycling, however, there are often reasons for this.

The most important thing to do (And not just for cycling, but for any exercise and even for your overall health) is to warm-up and stretch. This will have a great impact on all of your joints, including your knees.

When you do any physical activity, it brings stress to your muscles, and by stretching and warming up you can prepare your body for the intensity that it’s about to endure and result in fewer injuries, meaning more happy cycling time.

For numerous health benefits and a sense of well-being, we adults should do around 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week.

Therefore riding for 30 minutes per day is enough to satisfy your needs.

Most importantly, remember to start out slow and listen to your body. Make sure that you’re well-hydrated and try not to go right after eating, you might end up with side cramps.

If you’re going for a long ride, taking an energy drink or something else that’s suitable for your energy needs depending on your diet is a great idea. And most of all, have fun out there!

Conclusion

Once you start cycling and feel the pain that will most definitely come, remember why you’re doing it. Keep that thought in your head and whenever you’re struggling, push yourself with the thought of knowing that you want to become better. Eventually, if you maintain your consistency, cycling can be a hobby that you can be passionate about again.
