4 Essential Elements to Ensure Better Audience Engagement during Corporate Trainings

by Vivek Bindra

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do”, applies appropriately, especially for millennial who are keeping no stone unturned to fulfil their dreams. Though it leads to better performance and profits in the short-term, it may have a negative impact in the long run. According to a report published by Huffington Post, more than 42 percent of the corporate employees suffer from depression or anxiety disorder due to their hectic schedules and high levels of stress. In such a scenario, many organizations are looking for ways to ensure that employees enjoy their work and perform well despite the hectic schedule.

One such strategy is to organise interactive and fun-filled corporate training programmes for the employees and even for the leadership. The concept is quickly gaining momentum among companies in India and many renowned organizations are consulting professionals to organise training programmes for employees. However, a training programme will be not be fruitful if the employees do not engage during the session and bring out their best.

There are four key elements or ways to increase engagement during corporate training programmes, which are below:

1. Performance mapping
An integral part of a training programme is the performance mapping whereby the scope of the desired results of the training is identified beforehand. When you have a clear picture about the results that you need to achieve, it will be easier to identify the behaviours and determine the strategies to get the desired results. In addition to this, a training programme should be designed with a clear idea about the things that attendees need to learn, understand and implement. It is however, essential to ensure that the audience is motivated and engaged to accept the process of change.

2. Shorter Bite Size for Better Retention
Many of us find it difficult to retain too much attention at one go, especially when we need to sit in a closed room, with having our mind somewhere else. The reality is the attention span of everyone has decreased drastically and so it is important to introduce short bite size so that attendees are able to retain information as much as possible. Some of the corporate training houses have incorporated a technique whereby they provide five topics in approximately five minutes. This makes it easier for the audience to retain the information and also become an engaged learner. This also helps to focus on the key aspects that help in improving performance.

3. What is in for the Participants?
This is a mistake that many corporate training professionals make. Force feeding unnecessary information during the training session is a big “NO”. Before you plan any kind of training session, the first question that you need to ask is what are the advantages that participants will get from the session? There needs to be some takeaways for them when they attend a session.

4. Use technology
We have become slaves of technology and this can be effectively used for a corporate training session too. A leading training consultant will use technologically advanced tools gamification, and web-based training as effective vehicles of corporate training. The best way to do this is to know the participants and use those technologies that will make the session interesting.

Simply downloading information to participants during a training session is a thing of past. The more innovative and creative a consultant is in organising the training sessions, the more chances are to ensure participants’ engagement. Hence, it is imperative for organisations to look for a repute corporate training company that have these key traits to ensure high return on their investment.
