This is the final part of my comparison between the French Revolution and events happening today. The killing and chaos that was caused by the ineptitude of the French monarch, the revolutionaries, the rise of the far left liberals and their Reign of Terror, and the murdering of any who opposed them led to many, many people dying. As noted last week, two young men have already died in Seattle due to liberals realizing their utopia. I pray no more do. I believe more will if we continue down this path of allowing any extremist liberal idea or policy to be glorified and acted upon.

According to the Oversimplified series on youtube, the revolutions in Paris were seen as a warning sign to the countries around France. Therefore, the leftist government had to create a draft to have a ready army of the peasantry to defend itself. Couldn’t the liberals just offer them a puff of their bong? However, the revolution itself was not 100% supported in the countryside. Many of the peasants did not support the violence, the sense of entitlement, the liberal hatred of Christianity, or the other ideals of the new, violent republic.

I believe that the same would happen here in the United States. I believe that even today there is a big difference between the values in a place like San Francisco and those in Nashville, Tennessee. I know that I would not want to join a military that is about protecting a nation that has done away with the Constitution that was established by the Founding Fathers, that does not protect religious freedom, the freedom of the press, etc…I hope you would not either.

This led to the creation of two strongmen, men who were guilty of that most common of sins, seeing themselves as God: Robespierre and Napoleon Bonaparte. Robespierre was Stalin and Lenin and Idi Amin rolled into one person. He had executed anyone who he suspected or just wanted to and he did declare himself a god. Thankfully, when he tried to execute most of the government, they sent him to the guillotine.

The continued violence in Paris and the draft led to counter-revolutions in many different areas of France. These counter-revolutions were put down by a man named Napoleon Bonaparte, a man who wanted to make himself, emperor. He was so full of himself, he crowned himself emperor on December 1st, 1804. He crowned himself because he though he was above God’s Catholic representative on Earth, Pope Pius VII (https://www.louvre.fr/en/oeuvre-notices/napoleon-crowning-himself-emperor-pope).

To me, this can be considered the WORST result of the French Revolution and the scariest possibility for us today: the rise of a strong-man who has no fear of the Lord. I am sure the Left would welcome the rise of a strong-man or a dictator who shared their values. An autocrat who would end our democracy and see him or herself as god would definitely give them the socialist utopia they crave.

Isaiah 2:12 The Lord who rules over all has set apart a day when he will judge. He has set it apart for all those who are proud and think they are important. He has set it apart for all those who brag about themselves. All of them will be brought low.
