Women and Family: Everyone Deserves Respect by Brad Weisman

Everyone Deserves Respect

Everyone deserves respect even if we don’t see eye to eye. The world seems to operate better when we treat people with dignity and respect. Below illustrates how this applies in business, however it truly applies in all facets of life.

Many companies have found themselves outsourcing all kinds of services. In particular, we see this with agency work that once was kept in-house. As a result, companies have formed external partnerships to advance work. However, what is really going on is you have added head count. Not just people, but a business partner that wants to help your company. Sure….it costs money, but so would hiring employees. So, with that said, you are spending money regardless. Perhaps you are spending less by outsourcing, but if you treat that vendor poorly from the start you begin to pay more.

Let’s take a step back before you select a vendor. Vendors often present their set of services and as a company you pick the one that fits best. However, I profess this with treat the vendors with respect before they have taken you on as a client. If you are rude to them in early meetings to vet them out – how does that help the working relationship? It doesn’t! Nothing worse than getting to know someone prior to marriage and you already are getting treated poorly.

I watched this go on recently with a few vendors lining up to take on a new client. The client was brow beating them from the start before a cemented engagement. This is disrespectful and totally unacceptable…..thus the old adage “Is the juice worth the squeeze”. I say no. Revenue is important, but people’s health and happiness rank up there as well. This means, as a vendor make sure the client understands your expectations. Make sure they sign off on it and understand you are here to help them….retain them as a client…..and you are a partner in business with them. As a vendor, if you fall short, then you need to be accountable for your mishaps. You see – it goes both ways!

Nobody in business needs to be treated poorly and this includes the vendor. I have great disdain for anyone who treats others poorly in business (or ever for that matter). It doesn’t matter what side of the fence you sit on – be respectful! I have never heard of anyone being offended by someone being respectful. Have you?
