(Updates with Rodriguez apology in second paragraph.)

(Bloomberg) — Anthony Bosch, who ran an anti-aging clinic that Major League Baseball said supplied performance-enhancing drugs to New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, was sentenced to four years in prison.
Bosch was sentenced Tuesday, the same day that Rodriguez offered a handwritten apology to Yankee fans over his season- long ban. Rodriguez was suspended in August 2013, when then MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said the three-time American League Most Valuable Player used testosterone and human growth hormone over multiple years and tried to obstruct the investigation into Bosch’s clinic. Bosch was the founder of Biogenesis of America LLC. He admitted last year that he distributed black-market testosterone to 18 high school students. Prosecutors also charged Rodriguez’s cousin in a probe that focused on anti-aging clinics in Miami, recruiters for those businesses and a black-market distributor of testosterone. Professional athletes got testosterone from Bosch through shots, creams and “gummies” under their tongues, according to court filings in federal court in Miami. “Bosch advised the athletes to administer the shots in the buttock; troches/gummies were placed on the tongue before a game, and creams were applied to the upper arm and shoulder area in the morning and evening,” according to the filings. “Each program that Bosch created for each professional athlete varied based on the player and their need.” Bosch’s lawyer, Guy Lewis, didn’t immediately respond to phone and e-mail messages after regular business hours Tuesday seeking comment on the sentence. The case is U.S. v. Bosch, 14-cr-20555, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida (Miami).
