Women and Family: Respect by Brad Weisman

Respect is one word with a simple meaning, however so few people understand what it really means. It should be expected adults and kids respect each other regardless of the situation. This goes the same for people in a position of power. Oh…they may hold a higher power, however that does not mean they can speak inappropriately or put down the people who work for them. This is a common problem in society.

I have worked for 20 years and watched people of power in companies often put down others because they could. This is not acceptable. You never know what is going on in other people’s lives and if anything you should maintain some level of compassion. It could be politics….work…the classroom….and everyone should be treated with equal respect.

What do you get out of showing people proper respect? Well, you get the most out of them……you help their self-esteem and maybe you feel something positive inside. I have never seen a company leader treat people poorly and it help the company. Yelling and using unacceptable language has never helped anyone. However, we can learn to be respectful about the way we deliver a message. It is all in the messaging. I say this to parents….kids……business leaders…..treat people with respect and watch happiness and productivity go up. You can be critical of someone or an event, however deliver that message with respect to the audience you communicate with. Respect to others goes up in value almost immediately.
