SPORTS by Brad Weisman: The Impossible Can Be Possible (NCAA/NFL)

The college football season has most recently come to a close. Every year we get excited to see who will make it to the college football championship. However, the last few years the top 5 teams have been teams we have expected to make it far along and compete for a national title. This year was different in that the Alabama was expected to be there and win it. They not only lost that game, but Clemson proved something we all need to hang onto in sports and in life. Clemson was not a team that was talked about to beat Alabama’s NFL style game. In fact, most people had no concerns about Alabama reclaiming victory for yet another national title. In fact, it seemed impossible for Clemson to pull this game off. Not only did they win, but they perhaps proved the underdog can not only prevail, but do it by playing a level up from their normal play all season long. This year Clemson set a tone for all college teams and maybe even taught us all that anything is possible with perseverance. We can all fight to win games and the game we like to call “life”.

The college season was fun to watch in the end, but most recently we all encountered an NFL game which duplicated showed the impossible can be “possible”. The Dallas Cowboys back in there day were a fancy team and certainly gained all kind of publicity. For the last several years they have been a fairly quiet team, however adding Ezekiel Elliott has put them back on a pedestal this year. We have watched their running game pick up and have a successful season. Last weekend the Cowboys did not earn a “W” against the gritty Green Bay Packers. In fact, the Packers did was seemed impossible and won the game with a field goal with seconds left in the game. Aaron Rogers took the team down field with very little time left in the game to be in field goal position. Before we knew it the field goal brought the Packers the success they needed. The pressure of a last second field goal for a win makes it seem impossible. It brings up fear….pressure…….and stress to a kicker. However, Mason Crosby did not let any of that stand in between him and the field goal posts. He made the impossible “possible”.

College and pro sports are filled with dreams…..wins….losses and often impossible feats. Losing is often something we all have to deal with in any game. However, being the underdog and winning is also a position few of us get to garner. There is one thing college and pro teams can gamble on – there is no reason not to try to make the impossible “possible”. We all stand a chance to win!
