Everyone knows the story of David and Goliath — how a shepherd boy challenged the Philistine giant to battle and brought him down with a sling and a stone.  The story is told in 1 Samuel :17.

“Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah. They pitched camp at Ephes Dammim, between Sokohand Azekah.  Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah and drew up their battle line to meet the Philistines.  The Philistines occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them.

A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.  He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. ⁷ His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.  His shield bearer went ahead of him.

Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me.  If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.”  Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.”  On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.”

But David, the shepherd boy was not afraid for he knew that God would deliver the giant into his hands.  But where did the giant come from?  There are also biblical references to Goliath’s family, all of whom were giants.  According to scripture Goliath was at least ten feet tall and some of his brothers were taller.

The bible says that giants like Goliath walked the earth in those days and that they were created from the union of fallen angels (demons) and the daughters of men.  They were called the Nephilim.

“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” — Genesis 6:1-5

Other translations say it this way:

“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them.”

Another reference is found in Numbers when the Israelites were spying out the promised land:

“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Numbers 13:33

Yet another biblical reference is Deuteronomy 3:11

“For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.” Deuteronomy 3:11

Nine cubits is about fifteen feet long and four cubits is about six feet wide.  That’s a big bed for a big guy.

Over the years, many have questioned these texts, wondering why we have not found more traces of this race of giants. Well, the truth is we have found many traces.  I recommend reading my friend L.A. Marzulli’s excellent book on this subject: On the Trail of the Nephilim.  Following are other traces that have been discovered in modern times.

The Horned Skulls of Sayre

Sayre is a borough in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The exact year is not clear, but during the 1880s a large burial mound was discovered in Sayre. It was reported that a group of Americans uncovered several strange human skulls and bones. The skeletons belonged to anatomically normal men with the exception of bony projections located about two inches above the eyebrows. It appeared that the skulls had horns. The bones were characterized as giant, as they were representative of people over seven feet tall. Scientists estimated that the bodies had been buried around A.D. 1200. The archeological discovery was made by a reputable group of antiquarians, including Dr. G.P. Donehoo, the Pennsylvania state dignitary of the Presbyterian Church; A.B. Skinner, of the American Investigating Museum; and W.K.Morehead, of Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts.

The San Diego Giant

The mummy remains of a giant have been unearthed in a cave near San Diego, California. It was discovered by a party of prospectors, and was displayed at the Atlantic exposition while, a number of Smithsonian scientists were there. They asked permission to examine it and when consent was given applied their tapes and found that it measured eight feet four inches from crown to heel. The body lied rest in a ten foot coffin. The exhibitor agreed to sell it for $500 to the Smithsonian and it has since been in there care.

As Marzulli has pointed out in his books and videos, many such findings have been turned over to the Smithsonian, but the museum not only doesn’t display them, but rarely even acknowledges them.

The Martindale Mummies

The Martindale Mummies were discovered 1n 1885. In California’s great Yosemite Valley . A group of miners led by G.F. Martindale found the remains of a woman nearly seven feet tall still holding a mummified child in a cave behind a wall of rock . These mummies are currently the property of Ripley’s Museum.

Giants In Adair County Kentucky

Some men while in an expedition in a cave came across three sets of skeletons which measured eight feet seven and a half inches, eight feet five inches, and eight feet four and three quarter inches in length. Beside the bones lay three huge swords, that were so decayed that upon being touched they crumbled…

MEGANTHROPUS

In the country of Australia anthropologists have unearthed a race of giants, of which they have dubbed the name “meganthropus”. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is a proven fact. These people are very large in size and estimates range between 7 to 12 feet tall.  Most people agree that meganthropus, with his mega-tools, was a “man”.  Some of the tools found were axes, clubs, pounders, knives, and others ranging in weight from 8 to 36 pounds or more. And while some claim Meganthropus is an ape-human hybrid and an evolutionary being, there is just not enough evidence to back that up. Rather, Meganthropus falls in line with the countless of others skulls that have been unearthed across the globe and match that in likeness to other giant skulls.

Polydactyl Trait

One of the traits of giants in Biblical times was that of polydactyl. Meaning they have either six fingers or six toes, or both. This characteristic is still found in our world today. Including on many celebrities including: Oprah Winfrey, Gemma Arterton, Drey Carey, Halle Berry, Kate Hudson,  Antonio Alfonseca, and others (read about that here).
