On Monopolies of Reason and Love

Many atheists think that they are the modern-day priests of reason and science. They think in any argument regarding religious issues, they are always on the side of reason and science and wholly untainted by any faith or fuzzy logic. Also, many people of belief see themselves as the sole voice of faith and love and hope and the doer of all things loving.

Racing Toward Disaster

This view by atheists and agnostics has, of course, led to nightmares. It has been the precursor to horrific policies such as the policy of Eugenics, National Socialism, Communism and persecution of people of faith worldwide for thousands of years. Yet, many of the tenets of modern science rest on faith in one unproven theory or another. If you do not believe me, take an honest and harsh look into the limits of the Theory of Evolution. Whether or not you believe in evolution (and I believe that the Bible is not against the Theory of Evolution) Evolutionists make it stretch so that it takes a lot of faith. A YouTube video I saw a few years ago about the Reason Rally of 2012 had Adam Savage from MythBusters speaking. He was explaining the scientific engineering that enabled him to get from his house to the rally. Sorry, atheists do not have a monopoly on science or reason. I thank God for engineering and standards and scientific accomplishments. Some of which were discovered/invented by people of faith!

Little Superhero

Also, many faith people believe that they do not need to use reason or science. This denial of how the Lord acted and made His earth has led to many of the worst policies and actions by people of faith. This has lead to people of faith denying science and reality. When I hear a story of a Pentecostal snake handler dying of a bite, I just shake my head and wonder why they would tempt God like that, when Jesus told us not to tempt God. I mean, a snake even bit Paul (Acts 28:3)! I admit this is confusing since Jesus told us not to tempt God but then to handle snakes. My God-given reason and sense of caution tells me that I am not going to try it! For more information the Jesus’ snake-handling policy:

http://www.gotquestions.org/snake-handling.html.

Snake-handling is not an indication of using the head that God has given us. And everyday, somewhere someone who does not have any faith is shaming people who do by doing something for someone that people of faith would not do. An example of this is Live Aid from 1985, organized by Bob Geldof, a non-believer.

The truth is that history has shown, no one has a monopoly on either love or reason. People of faith have always been at the bleeding edge of scientific discovery, “subduing the earth” (Genesis 1:28). And non-believers will continue to surprise us. We just need to continue to use our heads as well as our hearts too! And next time non-believers say they are the only remaining sources of reason and science, show them the evidence that they are wrong!

Luke 14:28-32: For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.
