I am writing this on the 26th of September, even though Charlie Kirk was murdered on September 10th. So, I apologize for the delay. However, I have good reason for the delay. On that Wednesday when it happened, I was in complete shock and admittedly, in a bit of denial. Then I had to quickly pack for a week vacation I was leaving for on that Friday. I went on the cruise trip, trying not to ruminate on it. Thankfully, where I was, cell coverage and internet access was very, very limited. Otherwise, I would have been on my phone the entire time looking for the latest updates. When I got in port, I was all about getting the most recent information. I knew they would catch the guy very shortly. The man who did it should have known it too. Maybe he did.

My mind goes back to 2014 when I was in my first stages of creating Menofvalue.com. My mentor, Lloyd LeVine wanted to start a foundation. He knew of some young kid who was well connected and had started his own foundation called Turning Point USA. I was a bit skeptical that some kid named Charlie Kirk, barely out of high school, was doing this and that he had so much support. Anyway, being that this kid was from Northbrook IL, Lloyd arranged a meeting with him and his director. I showed up and so did a lot of Lloyd’s friends…mostly rich, old, Jewish men from the Northshore. I felt totally out of place. Turning Point was certainly hoping for a substantial donation from these wealthy, successful people. I do not know if anyone did. I know that Lloyd was extremely positive on what Charlie was doing.

I told Charlie at that time that I had never (before Obama) voted Republican in my entire life. But I also told him that I did not like where the United States was going under Barrack Obama. In addition, I told him that I had never stopped being a Democrat, it is just that the Democrat party meant something radically different that it did before Obama. Charlie laughed and said that this was a great way to put it! This sentiment was echoed by David Rubin in a famous video (Why Dave Rubin Left The Left). Charlie Kirk and David Rubin were well acquainted and spoke together.  Charlie Kirk should have gave me some credit for saying that first, but he may have forgot at the time he heard Rubin say it.  Hmmmmm.

Regardless, I saw Charlie go on and change his focus from high schools to colleges and universities. I called Turning Point several times and asked if Menofvalue.com could get an interview, to no success. I did not agree with him going on campuses and debating students, it seemed to be to be a waste of time because there will always be dissenters and few of them are motivated by reason and the ability to think logically, something that Charlie found out directly.

Truly, I am still struggling to wrap my head around the fact that he was assassinated. He was a good kid. I believe that young men and women cut down in their prime like Keith Green, John Coltrane, Martin Luther King, and hey, Jesus, are given a special mission and I believe that the Lord knows what He is doing and that Charlie’s legacy and message will only grow. However, our world will be darker due to Charlie’s and the others absences.

John 12:24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
