Thoughts on Turning 250
A few years from now the United States will be turning 250—in 2026.
I remember when the United States turned 200 in 1976. I do not think I will be around to see it turn 300. I think that the world is a VERY different place than what it was in 1976. I assume that the United States will also be very different than now when it turns 300. While I do agree that there are many attitudes and viewpoints that are better than there were in 1976, I also think that there are many that are just worse.
We have less guns and more crime.
We have more freedom to embrace different sexual preferences, but we have less families and stability (this is not a homophopic comment–several homosexuals have good families).
We have more ways to communicate but we have more isolation and loneliness.
We have more ways to treat medical problems and less people realizing they have a heart and soul problem.
We have more legal ways to get high and fewer people realizing they have a need to get down on their knees and ask for forgiveness.
We have the government getting involved in the minute details of our lives because we do not have an understanding of basic right from wrong.
We have diverse communities and cultures, but we definitely do not have a community that is allowed to be proud of being American.
We have a country that is actively trying to invade the United States and any attempts to stop them are met with cries of intolerance and being racist.
Women, minorities, and people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else. However, EVERYONE has to be more careful with what they say and do and you can lose your job and/or be sued for the slightest misunderstanding.
We claim to be more “woke” but we turn a blind eye to the discrimination and prejudice that being woke has brought.
Can you add any to this list?
These are definitely issues that were not as much of an issue as they were in 1976. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. I imagine in 2076 they will look back to know and say that at 250 years old, these were “the good old days”. I strongly believe we need to take time individually as well as a family, community, and nation to reflect on how the values that were established and codified in our founding documents have made us into the great nation we are today. If we do not, then there may not be a Tri-Centennial for the United States. It is time to cling to the eternal and the right.
Psalm 18:2″The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
