Concentrate On Your Golf Swing
By Jason L Weinberg on March 13, 2019
To be a good golfer you have to get really good at the most important part of the game: hitting the ball. This is a problem area for beginning golfers, thinking there is not much too actually hitting a ball with a club. However, this part of the game is the most technical and important skill. It looks simple. Smack the ball and it goes where you have your eyes trained. But then you quickly realize the ball has arrived in the tree-line or upside the head of the poor guy standing next to you…..that is if you hit the ball at all!
More times than not, many of those first swings are inadvertent landscaping modifications. The ball just a witness to those landscaping “improvements.” Below we will discuss some of the things sure to improve your golf swing, keeping your landscaping chores for another time.
The game of golf is not about just hitting the ball with all the power you can muster. Even if you do connect, the ball will most likely be way off the mark. You have to develop the proper technique to get the job done. What most beginners don’t understand is that developing a great golf swing has more to do with controlling your body than controlling the club. It’s all about the small details, not the power. To get the ball where you want it with all that is required to get it there, you will have to master the “recoil effect”.
So what exactly is the recoil effect? It is executed by keeping the body steady when you start from right to left and following through. That sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?
There are various ways to help you practice and improve this. Working with a heavier club will help, get someone who knows about golf swing to watch you, but one of the best ways is to record your swing with a video camera. Then you can play back the video and see where improvements are needed. Have someone who knows golf swing to watch it as well and they can give you a good critique.
Now, while making the swing be sure to relax your hands as you turn. Relaxing the hands keep you from smacking the ball with far too much power; much more than is necessary. While using this recoil effect remember that your arms are just an extension of a larger mechanism. The power for the swing does not come from the arms but from the abs and hips as everything rotates.
To ensure the ball goes the direction you want it to go, get good at hitting the golf ball in the origin. Keep your eye on the ball as you strike it and follow through. Remember; do not concentrate your power in the arms as you swing. It has nothing to do with upper body power. The position and the movement of your feet are most important, allowing your body to recoil, providing the power for the strike. Standing flat on the ground enables the transfer of power in the rotation as you strike the ball.
Discipline and practice, practice, practice is going to be your best friends when it comes to improving your golf swing. Only with discipline and practice will consistency come. And golf is about consistency. Good luck!
