Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

I have been surprised about how well I have been handling this quarantine and the fear of contracting the Coronavirus. But the truth is that I have been more concerned about what is going to happen in 8.5 years when Apophis makes its pass. Apophis is a meteor that will be passing so close you will be able to see it in the sky without any telescope in 2029. According to the following video, it will not hit the Earth.

However, others say that it might on April 13 2029. I think I am of the mind that I am not going to take any chances because even if it doesn’t, I do believe that everyone will be going crazy just seeing it that close.

The 2012 Steve Carrel film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World tells the story of a man who is dealing with the end of the world in a similar circumstance, a coming asteroid. He somehow gets caught up with a young woman (played by Keira Knightly) and they go through an adventure together and fall in love. The second most significant relationship that he spends his dwindling time developing is with his estranged father, played by Martin Sheen. Martin Sheen’s character gets a chance that few people do, to apologize to his son for his failures as a father.

\\I am not suggesting that the world will end on April 13th of 2029 or in 2036. I don’t know. However, I am suggesting that whatever time we have on Earth, whether it be one day or 100 years we use them in getting right with the Lord and with each other. Lovingkindness, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness are more valuable to God than the gold and silver that make up the roads in His kingdom. This is so true that even Jesus said when asked what is the greatest commandment. He said, ‘

Matthew 37: Matthew And he said to him, g“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And ha second is like it: iYou shall love your neighbor as yourself.

You see that? According to Jesus, loving each other is like loving God. The priorities of the Lord should be our priorities. The things that are important to Him, should be important to us.

1 John 4:10-11 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
