Devotional 7/25: A Meeting with Mike Pence
Friday, July 13th 2018, on the same day Mr. Trump was being mocked in London, Mike Pence came to Chicago to talk about the new tax law. I had always admired Mr. Pence and thought Mr. Trump choosing him as his Vice-President was a bold move considering how much controversy Mr. Pence had experienced in Indiana. I was excited to hear and see Mr. Pence and I was very interested in hearing the details about the new tax law. While I was so happy and felt very privileged to be allowed to hear the Vice-President of the United States speak, in person, I was a little disappointed, yet very impressed.
I went first thing in the morning, to be sure to get a good seat. The line had already been forming at 9:45 for the 11:30 speech. I thought for sure that I was going to end up in the waaaaaay back of the line, even at 9:45. However, I was very wrong. The line was relatively very, very short. There were maybe 50 in line. As the time passed, I got to know a few of the other people in the line. By the time we were let in, the line had grown to about 200 people. All-in-all I think maybe there were about 700-800 people all together. It was hard for me to believe that so few people who were interested in seeing Mr. Pence speak in such a setting. Also it was so hard for me to believe that so few people were interested in the hearing about the new tax law or about taxes in general (lol).
Another thing that I found disappointing was that Mr. Pence did not actually tell us about the new tax plan. He did try to justify the new tax plan to the people gathered. He also defended Donald Trump’s record to the people who obviously supported both he and Mr. Trump’s plan already. However, there were three SJW individuals who sneaked in and caused a short fuss. They were quickly escorted out. There was also a small Antifa-ish meeting across the street, but it quickly fizzled out.
However, I was glad I had went and there were several things that I was dutifully impressed with. He was very articulate and he was obviously very sincere. He is very charismatic. Bruce Rauner, governor of Illinois, introduced Mike Pence and was very supportive of both Mr. Pence and Mr. Trump. I hope that Mr. Pence considers running for President after being Vice-President.
The thing I was most impressed with by Mr. Pence was that at the end of his speech he took a moment to praise the Lord. Mr. Pence encouraged us all to “…Take a time to bend our knees and bow our heads and remember the Lord.” He also reminded us of when Abraham Lincoln was asked if he thought God was on OUR (the North’s) side during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln replied that he did not know but it is more important that WE BE ON GOD’S SIDE and not the other way around.
Vice-President Mike Pence, a man of value.
Matthew 25:23 “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’
