Let’s set the record straight that “Futbol” and “Soccer” are the very same sport. However, there is one delineation we often fail to see in the US. Soccer is a massive global sport that spans the world. Teams from Uruguay, France, Sweden, Croation, Russia and many more make up the sport which travels the world. Unfortunately, the US is not the brink of winning the world cup in spite of producing some very fine players. I have had the pleasure of seeing Manchester United play Munich in many years ago. This was not a world cup game, however that international taste and smell was all over the stadium. In fact, it was complete pandemonium the entire game from start to finish. Do not underestimate the international fans and the animated flavor the fans bring to the game.

As of today, there are only 8 teams remaining in the final games to complete the world cup. Is it me….or does the world cup seem like it has been being played for a full year. Even if you don’t appreciate the sport it is hard to not be fascinated by the athletic prowess of these players and how the world comes together for several months. Teams like Uruguay and France are leading the charge in the final games and the cup can really go to anyone at this point. For me, it goes back to watching the world become one and players (along with spectators) from all over the world being unified for a period of of time. When you think about it this kind of unification is necessary at a time where we are all so divided.

Futbol/Soccer has brought not only excitement to the world lately it has also made new fans….and maybe inspired a kid to play soccer who never considered it. I played soccer for many years, however I never had the international ingredient that we see in these games. With that said, appreciate the game and embrace each other’s cultures. The world is different everywhere, however soccer has always just had a few variables….the ball and fast feet😊
