We are always on stage being judged by an audience at all times all day every day. Aren’t we supposed to have a dress rehearsal?

Is there some form of preparation and really how are we supposed to behave? This article talks about self-awareness which is something I have been working for years on myself.

Every place you go to has a different audience…..every meeting you go to for work has a different audience……..and every home you walk into is a different audience. So, what the heck does all this really mean Brad? I have no idea….why are you asking me since I am working my own personal self-awareness? Kidding….I have a few answers…..let this funny cat talk about his thoughts if you don’t mind.

Well, it is so critical to know your audience ahead of time so you can prepare your behavior. This does not mean change who you are, but it does mean to temper any extreme behavior. We all should for that matter including myself. Be funny when you can be funny…….be serious when you know your audience means business…and above all always be selfless. Being selfish in any situation is truly an awful trait, however there are a few times in life when you can be selfish and it works. For example, if someone close to you dies you have the right to be selfish with your time for a short period. I know that is ok because I did that and we all need some alone time.

The point of this article is to always have a strong self-awareness and constantly work on this skill/trait. I am getting better at it, but I know there is work that needs to be done. It is also imperative that you really think before you speak or don’t speak at all. Just talking to talk means you most likely will say something you should have never said. Totally sucks to put your foot in your mouth or in someone else’s for that matter. Lastly, NEVER talk bad about people behind their back….talk bad about them to their face if you are brave. I thank all of my mentors for coaching me to be better and challenge me to behave better:) This is an area we can all improve upon.
