Whenever a conversation or debate takes place about who is the best golfer in the world, a few names are always mentioned with concrete facts and performance analytics supporting them.

Golf has been around the world for centuries now and is one of the oldest sports ever played. Despite having a controversial history, golf is still perceived as a true embodiment of precision, power, speed and timing.

Today we will discuss a few gentlemen who understood that “precision beats power and timing beats speed” and made a name for themselves in one of the most prestigious sports in the world despite not having the best of facilities or specific equipment used for golf .

10. Tom Watson

A true passionate performer of the game who dominated the seventies and eighties, winner of 8 major championships including 5 Open championships. Mentored by the great Byron Nelson in 1974, Watson was able to bag his first major. An epitome of longevity, Watson also competed at the Open Championship in 2009 at the age of 60.

9. Byron Nelson

Considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, Byron Nelson was a winner of 11 consecutive tournaments and a total of 18 tournaments in 1945. Retiring at the young age of 34, Nelson forwarded in life as a commentator. Nelson was the first player to lend his name to a PGA tournament also known as the Byron Nelson Classic.

8. Bobby Jones

Being an amateur golfer, Bobby Jones was one of the influential people in the golfing industry. 4. Gary Player

Often referred to as ‘The Black Knight’ for commonly dressing up in black head to toe, Gary Player had a career spanning over seven decades in which he won 150 professional titles. Also nicknamed as Mr. fitness, Gary was the prime example of a complete sportsman. Other than just playing the game, Gary also ventured into golf course architecture and had worked on more than 400 golf course designs around five continents.

3. Ben Hogan

The one player in this list who worshiped practicing more than actually performing would be Ben Hogan. He is one of the five players that have won all four major tournaments. Despite surviving a serious car crash, Hogan continued his journey and also won 63 professional world titles between 1938 to 1959.
