Setting Up A Local Sports Team

By Lyle Seeker

If you have played with or managed sports teams in your area before but want to start a new team free from any existing politics, or even if you simply are new to it and just have the inclination to start one up off your own back, then there are many things you need to consider. Some are obvious, but some are less so.

Obviously, once you know which sport you will be participating in, you need to ensure that you have the right amount of people for your squad. Whether you know people already willing to play or whether you advertise in newspapers or on notice boards, getting the team together is one of your first tasks. Well, after you have decided a name that is.

Next you will need to make sure you have the right sports training equipment, as well as a place to train. Looking into costs should be done even before you get your team together so that you know whether or not you can afford it and take money back from ‘subs’ or whether you will need to look into finding a sponsor or benefactor. Sports training equipment isn’t the only overhead either – make sure you take into account league fees and kits too.

Once you have the equipment and the uniform and the team are raring to go, you need to join the relevant league. Look around to see which the most appropriate league is for you as you may be surprised how many options there are out there.

Finally, make sure you have the relevant sports first aid to hand. Not only do you need a full kit of sports first aid supplies, but also someone on hand to administer the relevant first aid that is needed. From here, all you need to do is get out there and start enjoying it.
