Women and Family: Let It All Hang Out….

As a kid skinny dipping was a no no. It still is today, however sometimes you need to jump in the pool and be stripped down to the knees. We are not talking about profanity here…..but rather feeling vulnerable and essentially embarrassed. Man that is some scary crap….right? Well, that fear…….discomfort…..healthy pain…..is how you grow. Doing what always feels right is not a growing experience for you or anyone around you. In fact, when it is easy you NEVER get ahead. Look how many trust fund babies never get anywhere……and why you ask???? I can tell you based on my opinion – mom and dad crippled their chances to be hungry. They simply fed their kids to much food. As a result their kids sat back knowing they didn’t need a meal for a few days. The 10K tax free gift paid no dividends and was a complete loss.

I would like to speak from my point of view and how my father raised us kids. I can’t say he was always right and his style would not be desirable to most. However, this list tells you how this guy operated:

* Made us feel like we were getting by

* Made each of us start working early in life

* Said if you wanted something – go after it and don’t depend on others to get you there

* He stated many times “guilt by association” – if you hang around a clown you are one

* If you care about something than do SOMETHING

* Do the right thing

* Focus

* Family is key

* With out good health – you are of no use to anyone

His linear focus with his kids is unmatched to this day. However, it is sewn to each of his kids hearts. We are a heads down family doing what we learned. Perhaps we do it better since he is gone. Amazing how all of that stuff left a mark. It has…always will….and will be carried forward. Howie knew what he wanted for his family. He had a strong dislike for the easy way out. So do I. This is a good lesson for any kid or adult for that matter.
