Women and Family: Beat the Bully by Brad Weisman

We often watch the bully of the school own peoples words and behavior, but that is not right. We believe at an early age the bully is a person of great strength and power. However, it is actually not the bully that is tough. We can talk about that in a second. We graduate to being adults and now the bully comes alive in the business world. They own the conference room….they often put other workers down……and own your actions when you come to work everyday. It is so common for a subordinate to be fearful to call out the wrong doings of their superior for fear of losing their job. You can’t blame them, however we all have the right to speak up respectfully. Nobody said it was easy to find courage when confronted by someone higher in the food chain, however we have to.

You see, the really tough person is not the bully in the class room or the boss who stomps around. The toughest person in the room stands up for his buddies that are getting bullied…..the toughest person in an office lets their boss know they are making them uncomfortable and those around them feel great discomfort. The real tough person takes on additional responsibilty to protect those around them including themself. They are selfless and inclusive and make people that are uncomfortable comfortable. It takes great courage to do this and a massive dose of motivation. It is not about being the hero, but rather doing the right thing for those that may be perceived as weak. The truth, they are not weak, but rather not wired to be the voice and quick thinker at that moment. It takes time to build the calluseses of confiddence and strength. It is a bit of a mental game we all have to sometimes work ourselves up to and that is ok.

Not everyone that is small can act tall, however when you do it is amazing the respect you gain. People who never looked at you now understand you are not a good person – but rather an amazing person. Your lack of fear becomes rational for all the right reasons. Sometimes that good sumaritan behavior becomes contagious and others follow suit.

The only one in life who should get bullied is the bully.
