Clinton-Trump Meet in Round 2, Fed Minutes: Week Ahead Oct. 8-15

American shoppers were back in the groove last month as retail sales probably rebounded after retreating in August, economists project a report to show.

Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen speaks at a conference in Boston, while Bank of England Governor Mark Carney appears before the public in Birmingham, England. The Fed releases minutes from its September meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee.

The second U.S. presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump features a town-meeting format, with questions from citizen participants. It will be held at Washington University in St. Louis. The moderators are CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and Martha Raddatz, ABC’s chief global affairs correspondent and co-anchor. 21:00 EDT. The 2016 annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank concludes with a one-on-one conversation between IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde and financial journalist Michael Lewis, author of “The Big Short.” 10:00 EDT. The 23rd World Energy Congress starts in Istanbul. Senior lawmakers from around the world will participate. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan opens the event. The Nobel Prize for economic sciences will be announced in Stockholm at about 11:45 CET (05:45 EDT). The date for the literature prize hasn’t yet been announced. Argentina Finance Minister Alfonso Prat-Gay speaks at Columbia University, hosted by the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum.
