Super Healthy & Super Delicious Alternatives To Your Favorite Sandwiches  

 

There aren’t many people that don’t enjoy eating big delicious sandwiches from time to time. Unfortunately, many sandwiches at your local deli or favorite restaurant are packed with fat, carbs, calories, as well as artificial and unhealthy ingredients. If you’re interested in enjoying some awesome sandwiches whenever the craving hits, but without gaining weight or negatively affecting your health, you should be aware that it is very possible.

Here are 3 alternative  delicious sandwiches that are super healthy, all natural and surprisingly very delectable. They are all made using gluten-free brown rice tortillas as bread. If you’re on the Paleo diet, then you can use the delicious Paleo wraps that are available online and at health food stores. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can easily make your own. Both the brown rice and Paleo tortillas are very delicious, versatile and low calorie.

You will notice that mustard greens are used in all these sandwich recipes. If you’ve never eaten mustard greens raw before, then you don’t know what you’re missing. Not only are they slightly spicy and super flavorful, but that will increase the nutrition of your sandwich significantly!

The Mustard Greens Cheese Burger Tortillas

Ingredients

1 pound of ground beef, chicken or turkey

Salt, pepper and garlic powder to season

4 slices of organic low fat cheddar or American cheese

1 ripe tomato, cut into slices

4 large mustard green leaves

Organic mayonnaise

Spicy mustard

All-natural or organic pickles (sandwich slices)

4 brown-rice tortilla

Season the beef, chicken or turkey with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Form the meat into 4 separate patties.

Cook the patties in the oven for 20 minutes, or until done. You may also cook them on an indoor or outdoor grill, if desired. Don’t forget to place your cheese on top of each burger a few minutes before removing them from the heat. You will improve the taste by ensuring that your cheese is melted.

You can then begin combining the ingredients to make your super yummy cheese burgers. You can cut each wrap in half in order to create more of a traditional burger, or you can place all the ingredients in a whole tortilla and roll it up like a tortilla burger. The bread will be thin, but the taste will make you realize that it doesn’t matter.

Terrific turkey-n-mustard greens wraps

1 package of nitrate-free turkey breast deli meat

4 all-natural brown rice tortillas or some other healthy wrap

4 slices of your favorite reduced fat, organic cheese

4 large mustard green leaves

1 ripe tomato, sliced

Spicy mustard

Organic mayonnaise

Organic or all-natural pickles (sandwich slices)

Assemble your 4 sandwiches by cutting the tortillas in half and layering the ingredients, or rolling them up like burritos. Either way, you will soon enjoy some super healthy yumminess!

Healthy & yummy thin homemade pizzas

4 brown rice tortillas (store bought Paleo wraps are simply too thin and will not hold up if using them in this recipe)

1 cup of chopped mustard greens (you can place them in the food processor is you like)

1 cup of reduced fat shredded cheese (mozzarella, provolone and other cheese mixtures are good)

1 jar of all-natural or organic pizza sauce (you can make your own if you’re feeling creative)

1 cup of diced vegetables of your choice (broccoli, spinach, onion, peppers, etc.)

1 package of nitrate-free turkey peperoni

Preheat the oven to 375

Spread the desired amount of pizza sauce on your tortillas.

Next, sprinkle the cheese on them.

You can then assemble the remaining ingredients in any fashion that you desire.

Bake the pizzas for 10-12 minutes, ensuring to check frequently. You don’t want them to burn, as the crust is so thin, they will cook quickly.

Remove from oven, allow them to cool and enjoy! Yum, yum!

It doesn’t matter if you love Burger King’s Whoppers, McDonald’s Big Macs or huge corned beef sandwiches from your local deli, you’re probably painfully aware of the abundance of calories and artificial ingredients that these sandwiches contain. By making these yummy sandwiches at home, you will not only save yourself an immense amount of calories, but you can also save money. Eating these sandwiches instead of opting for your takeout favorites, you will certainly not have to worry about sacrificing flavor, because these sandwiches are mega delicious!
