A Well Thought Out Scream By James Riordan: HADRON COLLIDER EXPERIMENT SEEKS PARALLEL UNIVERSE

HADRON COLLIDER

The Hadron Collider is a spectacular ‘atom smasher’ located at the CERN centre in Geneva, Switzerland.  It is about to be adjusted to its maximum energy levels in an attempt to discover miniature black holes.  The problem is that it’s possible the experiment will actually create one or more black holes itself.  Scientists at CERN say that if the experiment is successful it could even reveal another universe that exists parallel to our own.

Hadron Collier Experiment

The experiment has already aroused the many critics of the collider, many of whom have already warned that the super particle collider could destroy the universe by unleashing a giant black hole.  To make things even more complicated and biblically terrifying, the scientists that operate the Hadron Collider have acknowledged that it is possible that the upcoming experiment could result in gravity from our universe “leaking” into the parallel one.

If all this sounds straight out of the comic books or a science fiction movie to you, rest assured that you are not alone.  It must be noted, however, that up to now the Collider has performed exceedingly well.  Among other things the Hadron experiments have proved the existence of the Higgs boson ‘God particle’ which is now believed to be an important building block of the universe.  The Scientists at the CERN centre are also very close to proving “dark matter” which while greatly theorized as making up the majority of matter in the universe, has never actually been detected.

But the parallel universe experiment dwarfs them all.  A member of the science team conducting the experiment, Mir Faizal, is quoted as follows:  “Just as many parallel sheets of paper, which are two dimensional objects [breadth and length] can exist in a third dimension [height], parallel universes can also exist in higher dimensions.  We predict that gravity can leak into extra dimensions, and if it does, then miniature black holes can be produced.”

The scientist said that his team has calculated the energy at which they expect to detect these mini black holes in a new scientific theory called ‘gravity’s rainbow’. “Normally, when people think of the multiverse,” Faizal went on to say, “they think of the many-worlds interprettation of quantum mechanics, where every possibility is actualized. This cannot be tested and so it is philosophy and not science. This is not what we mean by parallel universes. What we mean is real universes in extra dimensions.”

There you go.  Clear as a bell, right?

According to Faizal,  “If we do detect mini black holes at this energy, then we will know that both gravity’s rainbow and extra dimensions are correct.”  When the Hadron Collider is operating the energy is measured in Tera electron volts – a TeV is 1,000,000,000,000, or one trillion, electron Volts  So far, the scientists have searched for mini black holes at energy levels below 5.3 TeV.  But the latest theories claim that is too low and predicts that black holes would not form until energy levels reach at least 9.5 TeV in six dimensions and 11.9 TeV in 10 dimensions.

Though scientists as highly regarded As Stephen Hawking have said that the creation of a black hole could result in destroying the universe, the scientists at Hadron are confident that they have things well under control.

Wait a minute – talk about sci-fy movies, I think I already saw this movie and it didn’t end well…no wait, it seems some young scientist guy and his girlfriend saved the earth after all.  Cool.  Well, let’s just hope they’re near Geneva for the next few weeks.

Well, if they are going to make a black hole that destroys the universe… we best put on our dancing shoes and get it on tonight!
