Devotional 1/10: How Angry Can I Make the Mancow?

Back in October I was traveling a lot at a consistent time of day and I went out of my way to listen to Eric “The Mancow” Mueller on our local radio station here in Chicago. I have been a big fan ever since I saw him on a Christian Celebrity interview show, several years ago. I confess I did not know a lot about him, though I had heard about him and had lumped him in with other “Shock Jocks” like Howard Stern and other DJs I could not stand prior to that.

During this past month of October (and previous ones) Mancow has spent a lot of time discussing a particular house in Gary, Indiana that is known to be inhabited by ghosts. Now I admit that I did not hear give the entire story of the house. But I did pick up on that it was formerly the site of Satanic rituals, a priest attempted to exorcise the house, and that several children were affected by time inside of the house. Again, I admit that I do not know 100% of the story.

Being the WISEASS that I am, I decided to give a call and ask Mr. Mancow a question about it. I called in and I asked him, “What would happen if they bulldozed the house and put a convenience store there? Would the ghosts or demons inhabit/possess the Squishy machine?” Oh yes and I forgot to say the required phrase, “Love you/Love your show.” Well, the line went dead for at least a minute, I thought he had hung up on me. I said, “Hello?, hello?” “Then he started screaming at me, “Really? Really? You are going to joke about THAT?” and then he hung up.

Should You Trust This Guy?

Now, I share this experience with you for a good reason. It is important that as people of faith we remember that the power of the Devil is nothing compared to the power of the Lord. The power of the Devil IS a joke compared to God’s power and we should talk back to the Devil using God’s Word and laugh at him.

Yes, I guess the Devil can give you a Heavy-Metal record contract or three wishes in exchange for your soul (like in the movie, Bedazzled). I am not sure, I have never tried it!  I have always been more interested in what the one who loves me has for me!

A famous preacher from the mid-18th century, Smith Wigglesworth would agree with me. He frequently would say “Get behind me Satan!” He might have taken the idea from Tommy Lee and Vince Neil when they said, “shout at the devil” ! He even claims to have heard and seen the Devil. Yet he laughed at him (I heard about this on Sid Roth’s TV program, Its Supernatural, I was not able to find a book reference for it, if you know of one then please let me know!)! Now, I am sure that if anything supernatural like that would happen to me, I would be terrified. However, I also hope that I would remember that the Lord is with me and He is the One Above All, the Master of the Universe. The cattle on a thousand hills belong to Him, not the Devil. Then I would  say something like, “Get behind me Satan! and/or “I belong to the Lord!”

Now, I believe in ghosts and spirits and demons, I do, though I don’t believe we need any help to be bad.  I am not making light of that. However, just keeping your eyes on the Lord and you will want what He wants and He wants you to talk back to the Deceiver using God’s Word. That is the path to Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Faithfulness, Goodness, and Self-Control.

John 10:10  [Jesus said] The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
